Route Descriptions

In 2009 we redesigned the Elk River Valley 100 from top to bottom and received raving post ride comments. So for this year we're going to do it again. We'll begin and end at the same venue, Motlow State Community College, and keep the same routes with a few minor tweaks. The difficulty rating of these routes, especially on the 100 mi, is still at the advanced level. Rest stops are provided at approximate 15–20 mi intervals and a separate 10 mi route is provided at no charge, for bicycling newcomers.

The Motlow State Community College venue has extensive parking capabilities as well as fantastic shower/locker facilities.

As a special feature all routes, with the exception of the 100 mi and 10mi, visit the historic town of Lynchburg, TN. Lynchburg is a picturesque little town home to Jack Daniels Distillery, the oldest registered distillery in the US.

Before arriving in Lynchburg you'll pass through up to four Tennessee counties, experience plenty of rolling hills and enjoy several challenging climbs.

Based on the feedback to the changes made in 2009 the Elk River Valley 100 is destined to be one of your "Top Ten" favorite rides of this year.

(For easier comparison to routes prior to the changes made in 2009 each description will begin with a small note like this one. Relative to the amount of climbing, the 50 mile route prior to 2009 was the easiest. Now the 31 mile route holds that honor.)
