50 Mile Route
Profile
Everyone except for folks following the 10 mi route enjoy a beautiful, fast descent down to the itty bitty community of Raus, TN. Careful don't blink or you'll miss this little town. It's comprised of two churches, a community building and one outhouse!
The first climb over Hilltop, the highest point in Bedford County, comes at about five miles into the route. Be careful on the descent because it's easy to get over 40 MPH and there are some tight turns near the bottom.
The community of Flat Creek, TN is around 10 mi. There's a small gas station/grocer here that's not an "official" food stop but you can purchase goodies if you like.
The first food stop is at mile 14. Make sure to fill up here because in about six miles you're going to need it. The climb on Hawthorne Rd. is the second major climb. It is beautiful but difficult.
After meandering through spectacular Moore County you'll join back together with everyone at the second food stop and then eventually roll into historic Lynchburg, TN. There is no "official" food stop in Lynchburg but there are public restrooms and you can choose to visit one of the quaint restaurants and pay for a "sit down meal". New for 2012 you'll take a hard right just off the square of Lynchburg and climb Tanyard Hill. It's a good climb but rest assured you'll be treated with a very nice, smooth descent afterwards. Finally it's back to Motlow State Community College to enjoy a nice hot shower and of course our famous Elk River Valley 100 bratwurst meal.
