31 Mile Route
Profile
(This route is very similar in difficulty to the pre 2009 32 mi route. On that route there were two challenging shorter climbs and one long climb for a total elevation gain of 915 ft.*)
All routes begin together and except for the 10 mi route enjoy a beautiful, fast descent down to the itty bitty community of Raus, TN. Careful don't blink or you'll miss this little town. It's comprised of two churches and one community building.
The first climb over Hilltop, the highest point in Bedford County, comes at about five miles into the route. Be careful on the descent because it's easy to get over 40 MPH and there are some tight turns near the bottom.
The community of Flat Creek, TN is around 10 mi and is where the 31 mi route makes its departure from the others. There's a small gas station/grocer here that's not an "official" food stop but you can purchase goodies if you like.
Around mile 18 is the first food stop and at mile 23 you'll roll into historic Lynchburg, TN. There is no "official" food stop in Lynchburg but there are public restrooms and you can choose to visit one of the quaint restaurants and pay for a "sit down meal". Don't eat too much, though, because you've got one more hill before arriving back at Motlow State Community College to enjoy a nice hot shower and of course our famous Elk River Valley 100 bratwurst meal.
